Watchmen Prayer
“I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he established Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.” – Isaiah 62:6-7
Your Kingdom Come
When the disciples asked Him how to pray, Jesus situated prayer at the intersection of heaven and earth—to pray is to stand at this intersection and cry out for God’s kingdom to come. As intercessors, we live at this intersection: we inhabit the world--full of pain, brokenness, and need, but we have been commissioned to call forth the kingdom—full of healing, joy, and love, with prayer being the vehicle by which these two worlds begin to collide.
At Third Church we deeply desire to join in the work of prayer that the Holy Spirit is stirring up across the globe by raising our level of intercession for our city, our nation and our world. We are longing for great renewal across our region and beyond, and believe that developing a strategic watchmen community will be key to ushering in and sustaining a great move of God’s Spirit and a greater measure of His Kingdom.
The Role of the Watchmen
Just as physical watchmen used to be positioned high on the city walls to watch for what was coming on the horizon, spiritual watchmen are also positioned high on the city walls and are prayerfully focused on: activity in the city, activity in the nations, and on heaven’s purposes for the earth. Watchmen are in tune with the heart of God, and are able to connect with Him about the issues they see and pray in line with His Spirit for His purposes to come to pass. Watchmen serve as intercessors who both protect and bless the community they are watching over. Being a watchman will cost time, energy, sleep and incredible faith, but it has the potential to unlock the transformational power of God in our churches, cities and nations.
Join the Watchmen Community
In the Fall of 2015 we began growing our watchmen community – people who are committed to taking morning and evening “watches” of prayer in the Lighthouse at Third Church. The morning watch will be daily from 6:30am-9:30am and the evening watch from 6:30pm-9:30pm. We would ask that you would commit to signing up for two watches per month, coming for only one hour of the three hour time span. We will have a monthly on-line prayer calendar that you can use to sign-up to pray, and our hope is that we would have 2-3 people covering each daily watch. As a watchmen we would also invite you to attend the 610 service, an intercessory worship service at Third which occurs the third Sunday evening of each month.
It is our hope that the Lord would raise up amongst us a community of prayer that is found faithfully watching and contending for His Kingdom to come in powerful ways across the earth!
